Southern Comfort Buttermilk Pie

1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 9-inch unbaked pie crust
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 large eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Zest of 1 lemon (optional)

☆Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt until well combined.
Add the eggs one at a time, whisking after each addition until fully incorporated.
Gradually pour in the buttermilk and melted butter, whisking continuously.
Stir in the vanilla extract and lemon zest, if using.
Pour the filling into the unbaked pie crust.
Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool completely before slicing
