Slow Cooker Sweetened Condensed Milk Caramel

Sweetened Condensed Milk Caramel Sauce Recipe

Yield* 1½ cups of caramel sauce

★Ingredients

1 (14-oz) can of sweetened condensed milk

★Instructions

  • Prep the Can Remove the label from the unopened can of sweetened condensed milk. Make sure no paper or residue is left on the can.

Set Up the Slow Cooker

Lay the can on its side in the slow cooker.

  • Cover the can completely with water, ensuring at least 2 inches of water above the can to prevent pressure buildup.
  1. Cook

Set the slow cooker to low heat, cover, and simmer for 8 hours.

  • After 8 hours, carefully remove the can using tongs, as it will be extremely hot.
  1. Cool Down
  • Let the can cool to room temperature before opening it. This cooling period allows the caramel to thicken to a spoonable consistency.
  1. Serve
  • Once cooled, open the can to reveal your golden, creamy homemade caramel sauce. It’s perfect for drizzling on desserts or enjoying by the spoonful.

Tips & Variations

Lighter Caramel Cook for 6 hours for a lighter caramel color and flavor.

  • Flavor Enhancements After cooling, stir in a sprinkle of sea salt or ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract for added flavor.
  • Batch Cooking You can cook multiple cans at once and store unopened cans in the pantry for later use.
  • Safety Tip Never open the can while it’s still hot, as the contents could potentially cause burns.
  • If you’re in a hurry, you can make this caramel in a pressure cooker in about 40 minutes. Be sure to consult your pressure cooker’s manual for safety instructions.
