Salisbury steak with mushroom sauce

★Ingredients

For the Salisbury Steaks

1/4 cup breadcrumbs

1 lb (450g) ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 clove garlic, minced

1/4 cup milk

1 egg

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon salt

For the Mushroom Gravy:

1 tablespoon olive oil (for frying)

1 tablespoon butter

1 tablespoon flour

1 cup mushrooms, sliced

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

2 cups beef broth

Salt and pepper to taste

★Instructions

  • Make the Salisbury steaks
  • In a bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix everything until well combined. Shape the mixture into 4-5 patties.
  • Cook the patties
  • Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the pan and set aside.
  • Prepare the mushroom gravy
  • In the same pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Stir in the flour and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
  • Make the gravy
  • Gradually add the beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and let the gravy simmer until it thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Combine and serve
  • Return the cooked Salisbury steaks to the pan with the mushroom gravy. Let them simmer together for a few minutes to absorb the flavors. Serve with mashed potatoes or rice.

Enjoy!
